Top Ten Tuesday; Books I Purchased Because Of My World Literature Project

It's Tuesday and time for a new Top Ten Tuesday, courtesy of That Artsy Reader Girl. The theme of the week was books I bought/borrowed because... and I narrowed it down to my world literature project. It is a project I have going on trying to read one book from each country in the extent that it is possible. By the way, if you have any book recommendations for any of the missing countries, feel free to let me know.

My picks are;

Cambodia; First They Killed My Father - A Daughter of Cambodia Remembers by Loung Ung

Mauritius; The Last Brother by Nathacha Appanah

Malawi; The Last of the Sweet Bananas by Jack Mapanje

Nigeria; Purple Hibiscus by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

Syria; Fullblood Arabian by Osama Alomar

The Philippines; When the Elephants Dance by Tess Uriza Holthe

Indonesia; The Girl from the Coast by Pramoedya Ananta Toer

Myanmar; From the Land of Green Ghosts by Pascal Khoo Thwe

Malaysia; Evening Is the Whole Day by Preeta Samarsan

Zimbabwe; An Elegy for Easterly by Petina Gappah

  2. All of these look wonderful. All (except Purple Hibiscus) are new to me.

    I have been working on a project to read books from other places in the world, too. Here is my list: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1_0pibb85CnYFZ580L72SS6VjTyiNMeRJjpxeosesMCk/edit?usp=sharing

    1. I suspect quite a few people have heard of Purple Hibiscus, or at least the author. And thank you for sharing the link to your own project. I see we got a few books in common, such as Fateless and Anne Frank's Diary. :-)

  3. Nothing like a project you have to do to make you read a bunch of books!

    1. There's a lot worse things in life than reading books, isn't it? :-P
