Review; Death By Pumpkin Spice by Alex Erickson

Image
As I've read a few other books in the Bookstore Cafe Mystery series by Alex Erickson, I couldn't resist reading Death by Pumpkin Spice as it's autumn. Today I'll post my review. Description from Goodreads Bookstore café owner Krissy Hancock would rather spend Halloween serving pumpkin goodies than wearing costumes with Pine Hills’ wealthiest at Yarborough mansion, especially when the soiree shapes up to be more trick than treat . . . As if a run-in with an old flame and a failed marriage proposal weren’t enough to horrify Krissy for one night, a woman is found strangled to death in a room filled with ominous jack-o’-lanterns. All signs suggest a crime of passion—but when the hostess’s jewelry disappears, malevolent intentions seem way more likely . . . With the estate on lockdown and a killer roaming the halls, Krissy must help Officer Paul Dalton investigate each nook, cranny, and guest for answers—while also confronting a few demons of her own. Someone has lots of

Omtale; En liter blod av Gry K. Karlson

Image

Review; Swamp Monster Massacre by Shea Hunter

Image
After watching quite a few episodes of Finding Bigfoot and in general being interested in the whole Bigfoot-thing, I couldn't resist the horror novel Swamp Monster Massacre by Shea Hunter. I've finally read it and today I'll post my review. Description from Goodreads The swamp belongs to them. Humans are only prey. Deep in the overgrown swamps of Florida, where humans rarely dare to enter, lives a race of creatures long thought to be only the stuff of legend. They walk upright but are stronger, taller and more brutal than any man. And when a small boat of tourists, held captive by a fleeing criminal, accidentally kills one of the swamp dwellers' young, the creatures are filled with a terrifyingly human emotion-a merciless lust for vengeance that will paint the trees red with blood. My Thoughts on the Book Swamp Monster Massacre is a short and fast paced gory horror novel. It may not be for the faint hearted, especially as there's some fairly grusome scenes though.

Review; We Are Always Watching by Hunter Shea

Image
A while ago I ended up reading We Are Always Watching by Hunter Shea and today I'll post my review of this horror novel. Description from Goodreads They’ve watched over the house for generations… The move from New York to the decrepit Pennsylvania farmhouse is as bad as West Ridley thought it would be. His father’s crippling vertigo only seems to get worse, and even with his mother working herself to the bone, they’re out of money and options. Grandpa Abraham is a drunk bastard and the living embodiment of the long neglected farmhouse. He claims the place is haunted. Ghosts roam the hall at night and their muffled cries fill the silence of warm, summer nights. On the ceiling above West’s bed are the words WE SEE YOU. In a house plagued by death and mysterious visitations, West realizes something beyond the fiction of his favorite horror books has to be faced. Dark secrets are buried deep, and there are Guardians who want to keep it that way. No matter where they go or what they do

It's Tuesday and perhaps time for a new Top Ten Tuesday post, courtesy of That Artsy Reader Girl . As it was a Halloween freebie week in terms of themes, I decided writing a top ten list of underrated horror novels with less than 1000 ratings on Goodreads, especially as it's October next month. Here's my picks. Review; You Are Invited by Sarah A. Denzil

Image
Last year I was fortunate enough to recieve an ARC of the horror novel You Are Invited by Sarah A. Denzil through Netgalley. I read it shortly afterwards and today I'll post my review. Description from Goodreads "There are those who claim the ghosts walking the corridors of Sfântul Mihail are not ghosts at all." During a midnight journey snaking through the Carpathian Mountains, these are the words whispered to Cath Fenwick. It is the warning she will later wish she'd taken more seriously. When Cath receives her invitation to The Event--a monetised retreat for social media influencers--she can't believe her luck. Irene Jobert is the most famous influencer in the world, and now Cath will be one of the five participants chosen to stay with Irene in a renovated Transylvanian monastery. The catch? Their every move will be live-streamed to millions of people around the world. Patrons pay for constant access to their favourite social media stars: Irene, the model, Nath

Review; The Dead Don't Drink at Lafitte's (Sam Quinn #2) by Seana Kelly

Image
Earlier this year I was fortunate enough to recieve an ARC of the paranormal novel The Dead Don't Drink at Lafitte's (Sam Quinn #2) by Seana Kelly through Netgalley. I read it shortly afterwards and today I'll post my review. Description from Goodreads I’m Sam Quinn, the werewolf book nerd owner of the Slaughtered Lamb Bookstore and Bar. Things have been busy lately. While the near-constant attempts on my life have ceased, I now have a vampire gentleman caller. I’ve been living with Clive and the rest of his vampires for a few weeks while the Slaughtered Lamb is being rebuilt. It’s going about as well as you’d expect. My mother was a wicche and long dormant abilities are starting to make themselves known. If I’d had a choice, necromancy wouldn’t have been my top pick, but it’s starting to come in handy. A ghost warns me someone is coming to kill Clive. When I rush back to the nocturne, I find vamps from New Orleans readying an attack. One of the benefits of vampires lookin

Let's Talk Bookish; What's Your Back-Up Plan For Posting?

Image
It's Friday and perhaps time for a new Let's Talk Bookish post, courtesy of  Eternity Books and Literary Lion . The theme of the week was "What's your back-up plan for posting?". As I've got several months worth of scheduled posts, I rarely miss a day in terms of blog posts, but what I've done is writing a list of sorts in a Word document on my laptop in terms of blog post ideas/prompts to use when I'm stuck or in need for inspiration. It's currently five pages long and I've divided it up into lists, discussion posts, and various topics, so I've got some wiggle room. Some of the ideas on the massive list is even flexible enough, so I could probably make several posts out of some of the ideas listed. So with all the already scheduled posts, as well as the list on my laptop, I don't think I need to worry too much. That said, does anyone want me to publish a list of book blog post ideas or make a series of posts out of my back-up plan li

Book Tag; The Spooky Scary Books Tag

Image
I came across The Spooky Scary Books Tag over at  Shelby Masako's YouTube Channel and I decided to play along as it's a tag right up my alley. 1. Review; Loch Ness Revenge by Hunter Shea

Image
As I've been interested in the myth around the Loch Ness monster, I couldn't resist the horror novel Loch Ness Revenge by Hunter Shea. I've finally read it and today I'll post my review. Description from Goodreads Deep in the murky waters of Loch Ness, the creature known as Nessie has returned. Twins Natalie and Austin McQueen watched in horror as their parents were devoured by the world’s most infamous lake monster. Two decades later, it’s their turn to hunt the legend. But what lurks in the Loch is not what they expected. Nessie is devouring everything in and around the Loch, and it’s not alone. Hell has come to the Scottish Highlands. In a fierce battle between man and monster, the world may never be the same. My Thoughts on the Book I really enjoyed reading this book. There's plenty of action and I liked the dynamics between Natalie and Austin a lot. There's even a few moments where I ended up with a good laugh. It may be a fairly thin book, but it's hi

Review; Slash by Hunter Shea

Image
When I came across Slash by Hunter Shea, I couldn't resist reading it as I have a weak spot for 80's and 90's slasher movies. Today I'll post my review. Description from Goodreads Five years after Ashley King survived the infamous Resort Massacre, she’s found hanging in her basement by her fiancé, Todd Matthews. She left behind clues as to what really happened that night, clues that may reveal the identity of the killer the press has called The Wraith. With the help of his friends, Todd goes back to the crumbling Hayden Resort, a death-tinged ruin in the Catskills Mountains. What they find is a haunted history that’s been lying in wait for a fresh set of victims. The Wraith is back, and he’s nothing what they expected. My Thoughts on the Book Slash was a fun book for those who love gory slasher movies from the 80's and 90's. Run down area, ill-prepared friends and something (or someone) lurking around. It's a horror novel that would be suitable for a movie

Review; Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter by Seth Grahame-Smith

Image
I've had Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter by Seth Grahame-Smith on my TBR shelf for some time. At last I've managed to read it and today I'll post my review. Description from Goodreads Indiana, 1818. Moonlight falls through the dense woods that surround a one-room cabin, where a nine-year-old Abraham Lincoln kneels at his suffering mother's bedside. She's been stricken with something the old-timers call "Milk Sickness." "My baby boy..." she whispers before dying. Only later will the grieving Abe learn that his mother's fatal affliction was actually the work of a vampire. When the truth becomes known to young Lincoln, he writes in his journal, "henceforth my life shall be one of rigorous study and devotion. I shall become a master of mind and body. And this mastery shall have but one purpose..." Gifted with his legendary height, strength, and skill with an ax, Abe sets out on a path of vengeance that will lead him all the way to the
