Book Recommendations; Five Non-Fiction Books About Paranormal Encounters

Image
I obviously have a weak spot for all things spooky as I'm writing a book blog mainly focusing on paranormal and horror books. Over the years, I've also read a few books about ghosts, paranormal encounters, and similar, so today I wanted to write a list of five books I'd recommend that's about ghosts and/or paranormal encounters. Some of them are more tied to a place, while others have a theme to them so to speak. Anyway, here's my five book recommendations. Haunted Healthcare: Medical Professionals and Patients Share their Encounters with the Paranormal by Richard Estep Description from Goodreads Many of those who have chosen the medical profession are no stranger to the paranormal. Ghosts walk the hallways of hospitals both old and new, haunting the wards and operating rooms. Join Richard Estep, paramedic, paranormal investigator, and cast members of TV's "Haunted Case Files" and "Haunted Hospitals," as he talks to EMTs, nurses, medical pro...

Book Recommendations; Spooky Scotland

Image
As it's Burns Night today in Scotland, I couldn't resist making a short list of horror fiction set in that country. Haggis and the sound of bagpipes might be terrifying enough for some people though, but if you want to celebrate Burns Night with a spooky touch, or just want to read horror in general, here's a few horror books with a Scottish setting. Be warned though, you just might need some Scottish single malt whisky to calm your nerves afterwards. Hearthstone Cottage by Frazer Lee Description from Goodreads Mike Carter and his girlfriend Helen, along with their friends Alex and Kay, travel to a remote loch side cottage for a post-graduation holiday. But their celebrations are short-lived when they hit and kill a stag on the road. Alex s sister Meggie awaits them in the cottage, adding to the tension when her dog, Oscar, goes missing. Mike becomes haunted by a disturbing presence in the cottage, and is hunted by threatening figures in the highland fog. Reeling from a sh...

Book Recommendations; Five Cryptid/Creature Feature Horror Books To Pick Up

Image
As much as I love reading horror and/or paranormal novels featuring vampires or haunted houses, I read other spooky books as well, such as cryptids and creature feature. So in this blog post, I wanted to share a few book recommendations with creature feature and/or cryptids. Well, technically you could say that cryptids go in under the creature feature category, but anyway, here's five books worth picking up, and just for the sake of it, there's five different cryptids/creatures. Loch Ness by Matt Shaw Description from Goodreads For decades the Loch Ness monster has been a creature of legend. Seen by only a few but doubted by many, is there really something lurking beneath the waters of Loch Ness? According to scientists who have studied the waters for years, the chances of Nessie being anything other than a giant eel are slim to none. Even so, that doesn't stop millions of people travelling to the loch on a yearly basis in the hope of seeing the creature for themselves. To...

Book Recommendations; Ten Spooky Books With Summer and/or Travel Vibes

Image
Although it's late July, I thought it would be fun writing a list of book recommendations that involves summer vibes and/or travelling of sorts. It's of course a list of rather spooky books, which is probably no surprise. Anyway, here's ten books to pick up. His Final Girl by Brooklyn Ann Description from Goodreads DON’T GO IN THE WOODS Computer nerd, Wes Carpenter, dreads having to spend ten days at summer camp with the rest of his in-coming high school senior class. But when he meets strong-willed and confident farm girl, Linnea Langenkamp, everything about being away at camp improves immediately. When a malicious prank awakens an ancient evil, turning their summer romance into a bloodbath, Wes and Linnea pray they make it home alive while fighting for the survival of their classmates. With Wes’s ingenuity and Linnea’s knowledge of the forest, together they may be able to stop the killer, save the camp, and maybe even find their happily ever after on the way. Blood Cruis...

Book Recommentations; Ten Dark LGBT Reads

Image
Happy Pride month, everyone. As I'm bisexual and a lover of all things dark and spooky, I thought it would only be fair that I posted a list of ten dark LGBT reads I would recommend. Come, My Pet by Keira Michelle Telford Description from Goodreads In a secretive chthonic cult, young and beautiful witch Mistress Coralie yearns for her ascension to the High Council—an opportunity which presents itself upon the untimely death of her aunt. With a coveted position on the Council comes more power over the coven and the opportunity to breed, thus furthering her bloodline. But first, she must select a mate. For this purpose, an elite group of anatomically gifted women are bound in servitude to the coven. These magically-enhanced companions, upon forming a lifelong bond with a Mistress, exist only to serve her sexual needs and sire her offspring, speaking only when spoken to, and obeying her every command without question. As per coven tradition, Coralie must take her pick from a coterie ...

Book Recommendations; Ten Horror Books By Female Authors

Image
Considering it's Women's History Month and I'm a female book blogger, I figured out it would only be fair if I wrote a list of book recommendations on horror books by female authors. Horror isn't a genre that's too popular in the first place and as a few female horror authors occasionally do get a bit of crap just for existing, support them is a good thing. Anyway, here's some horror books I would recommend. The Night Silver River Run Red by Christine Morgan Description from Goodreads Some things, according to Cody McCall, are worth risking a whipping. Such as, sneaking out with your friends after dark for a peek at the traveling show setting up just outside of town. Oddities, the signs promise. Marvels. Grotesqueries. Exotic attractions and mysterious magics. Not as if they'd be allowed to attend otherwise, not with parents and preacher and schoolmarm all disapproving. But how often does a chance like this come along? There isn't much else by way of ex...

Book Recommendations; Older Horror Novels Worth The Read

Image
Even though there's plenty of awesome horror novels published in the last decade or so, sometimes it's a bit fun reading older horror novels too and with that in mind, I decided writing a list of five older horror novels worth the read. Here's five older horror novels to pick up. Dracula by Bram Stoker Description from Goodreads Bram Stoker's novel became one of the masterpieces of the horror genre, brilliantly evoking a world of vampires and vampire hunters whilst simultaneously exposing the dark corners of Victorian sexuality and frustrated desire. Carmilla by J. Sheridan Le Fanu Description from Goodreads Carmilla is the original vampire story, steeped in the sexual tension between two young women and gothic romance. In an isolated castle deep in the Austrian forest, teenaged Laura leads a solitary life with only her father, attendant and tutor for company. Until one moonlit night, a horse-drawn carriage crashes into view, carrying an unexpected guest—the beautiful ...
