It's perhaps time for another Book Blogger Hop post courtesy of  Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer  and this week's topic was " Have you ever ventured out of your preferred genres? If so, were you surprised you enjoyed the book? ". Book Blogger Hop It happens from time to time that I dive into something completely different, such as a few years ago when I picked up a few westerns. Somehow I quite enjoyed reading those action-packed and faster-paced where the cowboy saves the day. As I enjoy reading both historical fiction and crime/mystery, westerns combined some elements of both those other genres.

Which one made you shiver or made you feel like it was Halloween? ". Book Blogger Hop For some, it may not come as a surprise when I say Bram Stoker's Dracula is my all-time favourite when it comes to horror-themed novels. While I can't deny it's fairly mild on the horror by today's standards, I still love it. I even wrote my final paper on that novel when I majored in English at university, so I am a bit of a geek when it comes to that gothic novel. Funnily enough, it was the movie Dracula - Dead and Loving It that made me interested in Dracula in the first place.

". Book Blogger Hop Although I obviously read horror and paranormal books all year around, I amp it up a bit more during the autumn, especially around Halloween, but I don't have any particular authors or books that I turn to every October. I can't deny I love a good book with the haunted house trope though.

". Book Blogger Hop For me, it's reading non-fiction about WWII, especially the death camps. Although I've got a weak spot for horror and paranormal fiction, nothing is so scary and spine-chilling as reading about the Nazis treatment of Jews and other so-called "unwanted people".

What book would you recommend to students, whether it's an educational read or an enjoyable diversion from textbooks?". Book Blogger Hop My recommendation might be more suitable for older students, and university students, but I would love to recommend The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova if they're in search of a diversion from textbooks. It's not a short book, but it's a good read, especially if someone is into Dracula.

What role have libraries played in your reading journey? Do you have any recommendations for books or fond recollections involving libraries? ". Book Blogger Hop As my parents took me to the library down the street even before I could read (I was probably a few months old the first time, but can't say for sure), I've always had a love for both books and libraries. As my late mother named me after the protagonist in Kristin Lavransdatter by Sigrid Undset, I was basically "doomed" to love books from the get-go really. I can't complain, as books are awesome. Some of my more fond memories involving libraries includes my late mother and I spending Saturdays at a library after my parents divorced when I was a teen, borrowing books to read.

". Book Blogger Hop I'm sure I could have mentioned lots and lots of books for this, but as it's limited to just one, I'll suggest the horror novel The Exorcist's House by Nick Roberts. It's one of those horror novels that has a lot to it, such as a lot of creepiness, as well as an homage of sorts to The Exorcist (yeah THAT one with Reagan). At the very least, The Exorcist's House is a book for the horror fans out there.

Book Blogger Hop While I can see that it can be useful in marketing so the publishers can sell more books, but it still makes me a little bit wary somehow. Just why can't the marketing be more original? I also think it's good for books to "stand on their own two feet", so to speak and not be compared to other books too much.

Do you have a favorite romantic book to suggest to other readers eager to celebrate love through literature? ". Book Blogger Hop While I'm sure there's some who would call me crazy for saying Dracula by Bram Stoker has a few romance elements to it, and so does Carmilla and Laura by S. D. Simper, but of the more "normal" romance novels, I'd recommend The Bookshop on the Corner by Jenny Colgan and The Little Bookshop of Love Stories by Jaimie Admans. I must confess I'm not a huge romance reader, but I've read a few of them over the years when I needed a break from horror and paranormal.

What is your favorite book that takes the reader on an exciting journey or transfers them to a captivating destination? ". Book Blogger Hop Alright, as I'm mainly focusing on horror and paranormal fiction on this blog, I figured out it would probably be for the best focusing on location(s) for this post. If anyone wants to be transported to Whitby, UK, the books "Scravir - While Whitby Sleeps" by C. M. Vassie and "The Whitby Witches" by Robin Jarvis is worth checking out. On the other hand, if you're into a bit more exotic places, Savage Jungle: Lair of Orang Pendek by Hunter Shea drags you to the Indonesian jungle, and "The Haunting of Las Lágrimas" by W. M. Cleese takes you to remote Argentina.

". Book Blogger Hop The way things are now, with BookTok, Bookstagram, and everything, I'd say book bloggers have more power than professional critics, especially when it comes to younger people while middle-aged and/or older people might rely a lot more on the professional ones. While it's totally great that social media can inspire people to read more, I'm at times a bit wary of some of the book bloggers there's a minority  that actually have a bookish background so to speak, whether it's as librarians, a major in English, or whatever. Not that I'm saying that there isn't any good book bloggers without such a background, but "just because" someone has read a handful of books, it doesn't make them exper...

Book Blogger Hop I honestly can't say I remember it, as I was fortunate enough having a library literally down my street when I was a kid and my parents often took me there to borrow books. I was probably a few months old the first time I was at a library. Perhaps needless to say, I was turned into a book lover from a young age, which is a good thing.

". Book Blogger Hop I've loved books and reading for as long as I remember, but a gateway author in terms of horror was Edgar Allan Poe. In my early teens I stumbled across a short story collection of his at a library and I've loved horror ever since.

If so, do you have a system to keep track of whom you lend books to?" . Book Blogger Hop After I've burned myself on someone who borrowed a few of my books and never returned them, I ended up buying one of those  personal library kits  from Knock Knock and use them on the books people borrow. It helps me a lot in terms of keeping track of who has some of my books.

Book Blogger Hop There's plenty of books that sounds like fun to read and three of them are Deadly Delights by Laura Jensen Walker, Murder at the Lakeside Library by Holly Danvers and Reserved for Murder by Victoria Gilbert. I can't deny I have a weak spot for cosy mysteries, which is part of the reason why I've listed three cosies.

If the books were cheap enough, I certainly would, but in Norway, books can be a bit pricey.

It's Friday and time for a new Book Blogger Hop post, courtesy of  Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer . The question of the week was " Do you read books that have an autumn theme? ". I've read plenty of fun books with an autumn theme, such as Autumn Alibi by Jennifer David Hesse, but I also read a few spooky books during October as it is the month for Halloween. Autumn is after all my favourite season, so of course I'll read plenty of autumn/Halloween-inspired books.
