Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge; Books I Love That Became Films or TV Shows

Image
It's Wednesday and perhaps it's time for another Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge post courtesy of  Long and Short Reviews  and today's theme is books I love that became films or TV shows. As I'm mainly focusing on horror and paranormal on this blog, it's obvious I'll mention some spooky and spine chilling books and movies, but that's not to say there's book to movie adaptions of books in other genres I dislike (yeah, I'm team Colin Firth when it comes to Pride and Prejudice). When it comes to spooky stuff, some book to movie adaptions includes Let the Right One In by John Ajvide Lindqvist, Ring by Koji Suzuki, My Best Friend's Exorcism by Grady Hendrix, The Woman in Black by Susan Hill, Dracula by Bram Stoker, Interview with the Vampire by Anne Rice (the only movie I enjoyed Tom Cruise as I find the bloke creepy AF), and of course The Exorcist by Wiliam Peter Blatty. Speaking of The Exorcist, if anyone else is into spooky stuff and alleged c...

Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge; Horror Books I Discovered On Social Media

Image
It's Wednesday and perhaps it's time for another Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge post courtesy of  Long and Short Reviews  and today's topic is books I discovered on social media. As I'm mainly writing about horror and paranormal, I'll obviously focus on those books. I've discovered quite a few books thanks to social media, and when it comes to horror, I've discovered a lot of horror in the awesome  Books of Horror  group on Facebook (well worth checking out if you love horror). Some books that I discovered and loved, includes Clown in a Cornfield by Adam Cesare, The Prettiest Girl in the Grave by Kristopher Triana, Stolen Tongues by Felix Blackwell, The Cursed Among Us by John Durgin, and The Exorcist's House by Nick Roberts. I can acknowledge that my taste in books aren't for everyone though.

Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge; Favourite Comfort Foods

Image
It's Wednesday and perhaps it's time for another Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge post courtesy of  Long and Short Reviews  and today's topic is favourite comfort foods and why (plus recipes). I'm one of those who loves food with a bit of flavour in it and often gravitate towards Thai and Chinese dishes, but I enjoy food from a lot of countries. A few of my favourite comfort foods are Italian Lamb Ragu, Romanian Paprika Chicken, and Thai Satay Chicken. I honestly doubt I'm the only one who finds comfort in a bowl of tasty pasta though. I've found a nice recipe of lamb ragu online that I've made several times over the last couple of years. While it takes a while to make, it tastes really good. When it comes to paprika chicken, well, as I'm a bit of a Dracula geek, I doubt it's to anyone's surprise that I'm mentioning a dish from that book. Anyway, here's links to recipes in case anyone wants to make any of them at home. Lamb Ragu Papri...

Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge; A Book I'm Nervous To Read

Image
It's Wednesday, which means it's time for another Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge post courtesy of  Long and Short Reviews  and today's topic is a book I'm nervous to read and why. For me, it's Mein Kampf by Adolf Hitler, easily. Why? It's honestly a bit scary getting into his head and his thought process, and reading his opinions on various topics. It's one of those cases of I want to find out what the hell he was thinking, but on the other hand, nope, I don't want to find out. I suspect I'm not the only one who's a bit reluctant to say it the least, on the thought of reading that book, as he was after all an arsehole to put it mildly.

Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge; Favourite Hobby and Why

Image
It's Wednesday, and thus perhaps it's time for another Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge post courtesy of  Long and Short Reviews . This week's topic was favourite hobby and why. Aside from reading, otherwise I wouldn't have bothered writing this blog, my favourite hobbies are cooking and baking. Somehow I relax while in the kitchen, making food and trying new-to-me recipes. Perhaps unsurprisingly, as I love both books and cooking, I have quite a collection of cookbooks and quite a while ago, I decided I wanted to cook my way through my cookbooks, trying the recipes that caught my eye and I found interesting. At first, I "only" documented it on  Instagram  and created a specific hashtag for it, but I more recently also started  a blog  for it, even though I can admit I haven't been too good at updating the latter at times. Some other benefits are that I can try new-to-me cuisines without going to restaurants and I improve my skills in the kitchen. As I ...

Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge; A Genre I Want To Read More of

Image
It's Wednesday again and perhaps it's time for another Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge post courtesy of  Long and Short Reviews  and the theme of the week is a genre I want to read more of. If there's one genre I'd love to read more of, it's splatterpunk (and extreme horror in general, really). It's a genre not for the weak of hearts, as it's blood, guts, and gore, and overall a bit disturbing at times. Also, it's a genre for the more adult audience. I've read a few splatterpunk and extreme horror books already, and fair to say, I wouldn't recommend kids and teens to read it. If you're a bit curious on what splatterpunk is, feel free to check out  this link .

Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge; Something You Might Not Guess About Me

Image
It's Wednesday and today it's time for a new Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge post courtesy of the book blog  Long And Short Reviews . Today's topic was "something you might not guess about me". I'm sure there's plenty of things people might not guess about me, but a few things might be that I'm an avid knitter, in addition to the fact that I own and live in an old house built in 1901. While my home decor style inside is a combo of dark academia, moody maximalism, and all thing spooky, I'm transforming the garden to have a cottage garden-vibe to it. The book  Cottage Gardens  by Claire Masset has helped and inspired me a lot in that sense, and it's somehow fitting having a cottage garden in the first place, as not only is my house a bit old, but authors like Beatrix Potter, Virginia Woolf, and Thomas Hardy all had their own cottage gardens. In addition to that, some of the roses I've got have some literary-inspired names, such as Astrid...

Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge; Do I Enjoy Shopping?

Image
As it's been quite a while since I've done a Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge post courtesy of the blog named Long and Short Reviews , I decided it was time and today's topic was " Do you enjoy shopping? Why or why not? ". Overall, I find shopping as a hobby rather boring snooze-fest, but that being said, I do enjoy shopping for books, or stop by at a cool vintage shop. I can't do a whole day of shopping though, even at vintage shops or bookstores.

Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge; A Person Who Inspires Me

Image
It's Wednesday and perhaps time for a new Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge, courtesy of Long and Short Reviews  and the topic of the week was a person who inspires me. One person in particular who inspires me is the war historian Lynette Nusbacher. Not only is she highly intelligent, into fencing and having a sense of humour, she's also transgender, which makes me respect her even more, especially as I'm bi myself and sadly have seen just how much crap people like her can get just for being who they are. In a way she also give me hope that even someone like me can belong in an academic setting and possibly obtain a phd in the future, as I sometimes feel I'm "too different". If you're a bit curious about Lynette Nusbacher, feel free to check out her  Facebook page  or this interview on Youtube below.

Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge; Books That Would Make Great Gifts

Image
It's Wednesday and time for the final Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge post of the year, courtesy of  Long and Short Reviews . Fittingly, the topic of the week was books that would make great gifts. There's so many good books out there that would make great gifts, it's almost a bit hard to choose, but here's a few of them. Pharcel: Runaway Slave by Alick Lazare Seraphina by Rachel Hartman Roanoke Ridge by J. J. Dupuis Cooking for Ghosts by Patricia V. Davis The Occupation by Deborah Swift Misfits by Hunter Shea Felix Ever After by Kacen Callender Bayou Magic by Jewell Parker Rhodes Hood Feminism: Notes From The Women That A Movement Forgot by Mikki Kendall A Shot of Murder by J. A. Kazimer The Nickel Boys by Colson Whitehead The Reading Buddy by Bryce Gibson

Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge; Recipes From Fiction Books That I Want To Try

Image
It's Wednesday and time for a new Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge post, courtesy of  Long and Short Reviews . The theme of the week was recipes from fiction books that I want to try. I've personally read quite a few food-themed cosy mysteries and there's plenty of food I want to try. Luckily for me, some of the books contain recipes in the back for a few of the mentioned dishes, so I might attempt making some of them in the future.

Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge; Favourite Songs or Musicians

Image
It's Wednesday, which means it's time for a new Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge post, courtesy of  Long and Short Reviews . The theme of the week was favourite songs or musicians. Some of my favourite bands and musicians include The D-Day Darlings, Alice Cooper, Arkona, Ozzy Osbourne and Omnia.

Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge; Recipes From My Country

Image
It's Wednesday again and time for a new Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge post, courtesy of  Long and Short Reviews . The theme of the week was recipes from my city/state/country. As I live in Norway, I figured out I'll give you a couple of links to a couple of recipes, which is  Norwegian Fish Cakes  and  Komle . Both of them are from the Thanks for the Food blog, where you can find even more Norwegian-inspired recipes if you're interested. The blogger has even published a cook book. At least I had common sense enough to NOT link to a recipe for the slightly "evil" thing called Smalahåve, which is basically roasted sheep head. Thanks, but no thanks. I would prefer haggis from Scotland, as with haggis, at least the food isn't staring back at me while I eat it.

Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge; The Non-Fiction Book Everyone Should Read

Image
It's Wednesday and time for a new Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge post, courtesy of  Long and Short Reviews . The theme of the week was the non-fiction book everyone should read and why. My pick is The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank. The main reason why I chose this one is because it gives some insight into what Jews and Jewish children had to endure during WWII, in addition to the tragic end of her life in Bergen-Belsen (although the latter isn't mentioned in the diary itself as she and her family got captured and the diary left behind in Holland).

Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge; Favourite Things To Do In The Autumn

Image
It's Wednesday, which means it's time for a new Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge post, courtesy of  Long and Short Reviews . The theme of the week was favourite things to do in the autumn. Aside from snuggle under a blanket with a good book, I like to bake, do autumn-inspired crafts, knit, watch horror movies (or read horror novels), drink lots of coffee, cider and hot chocolate, do some photography of the beautiful autumn colours in nature, participate in NaNoWriMo and lots of other fun stuff. Also, if you want some more inspiration for fun activities during the autumn, feel free to check out  Fall Bucket List: 100 Things To Do In Fall  at the Uncustomary blog.

Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge; Things On My Bucket List

Image
It's Wednesday again, which means it's time for a new Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge post, courtesy of  Long and Short Reviews . The theme of the week was things on my bucket list. I'm not going to write my entire bucket list in this post, but of some things on my bucket list includes dogsledding, publish a book and take photos of the aurora borealis.

Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge; Things I Collect

Image
It's Wednesday again and time for a new Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge post, courtesy of  Long and Short Reviews . The theme of the week was things I collect. The main thing I actively collect is obviously books, an added bonus if they're signed. I also collect various book-related stuff, such as bookmarks, totebags with book-related typography, bookish candles, notebooks, Funk Pops etc. All things books really. I guess it's no shocker there, really. As a side-note, I do collect non-bookish items such as CD's, LP's, band t-shirts, art, and random goth-inspired stuff. Yes, I'm the person who actually has black wine glasses.

Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge, The Last Place I Travelled To and Why

Image
It's Wednesday yet again and time for a new Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge, courtesy of  Long and Short Reviews . The theme of the week was the last place I travelled to and why. The last place I travelled to was York, UK, back in March 2014 as a study trip with one of my classes at university. It was a two-week trip and we had several fun lectures at the Norwegian Study Center at University of York during the day and free time in the evenings and weekend. I ended up exploring York a bit in the free time.

Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge; My "Go To" Movies for a Pick-Me-Up

Image
It's Wednesday, which means it's time for a new Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge, courtesy of  Long and Short Reviews . The theme of the week was my "go to" book or movie for a pick-me-up. For me, there's a couple of movies that always works as a pick-me-up and that's Dracula - Dead and Loving It, The Addams Family Values, Sleepy Hollow and Beetlejuice. Some might think I'm a bit weird, but that's how I am. You can't take the goth kid out of me no matter how hard you try.

Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge; Favourite Poems

Image
It's Wednesday and time for a new Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge, courtesy of  Long and Short Reviews . The theme of the week was favourite poems, short stories and novellas. I decided to focus on poems. Aside from The Raven by Edgar Allan Poe, here is three of my favourite poems.
