Book Blogger Hop; What Do You Like/Dislike About Self-Published Books?

It's Friday and time for yet another Book Blogger Hop post, courtesy of Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer. The question of the week was "What do you like/dislike about self-published books?".
One of the things I enjoy about self-published books are the variety of stories and in general hidden gems. What I do dislike, is that sometimes books can seem more like (rough) first drafts, having some plot holes, poor grammar/spelling and so on and in general perhaps needing an editor to look through the book. Althrough I like self-published books, please do the proper work beforehand so you don't look stupid afterwards.

    I'm not a big of self-published books. Many of them are badly written.

      I'm not going to object against the point of poorly written books. I've read quite a few of them and totally get why they weren't published by traditional publishers.

    I have not read any self-published book, but can easily predict, that bad writing and poor spelling or grammar would put me off, however the plot might be interesting.

      Some of them do have an interesting plot, but quite a few of them have bad writing and/or poor spelling and grammar.

    I agree that some of the editing in self published books can be horribly done and it tends to distract me from the story a bit.

      I'm with you there, though I have experienced that a local publisher in my area isn't that good when it comes to proof-reading (don't get me started on all the poor grammar and spelling mistakes in their published books).

Annoncing the 2023 Diversity Reading Challenge

As it's 2023 in less than two months, I figured out it was time to annouce the 2023 Diversity Reading Challenge. I’m not going to make any categories or levels for this challenge, as I want it to be a bit flexible. Read as many books as you feel like reading and yes, it can be children’s books, graphic novels, e-books, non-fiction, audio books, poetry and you-name-it. As it is a diversity reading challenge, it would be mean to exclude some types of reading materials, right? Now, what is diversity you might ask?
