Review; Portrait of an Artist: Frida Kahlo: Discover the Artist Behind the Masterpieces by Lucy Brownridge

Last year I was fortunate enough to recieve an ARC of the picture book/biograhy Portrait of an Artist: Frida Kahlo: Discover the Artist Behind the Masterpieces by Lucy Brownridge through Netgalley. I read it shortly afterwards and today I'll post my review.

Frida Kahlo was a Mexican painter and today is one of the world's favourite artists. As a child, she was badly affected by polio, and later suffered a terrible accident that left her disabled and in pain.

Shortly after this accident, Kahlo took up painting, and through her surreal, symbolic self portraits described the pain she suffered, as well as the treatment of women, and her sadness at not being able to have a child. This book tells the story of Frida Kahlo's life through her own artworks, and shows how she came to create some of the most famous paintings in the world. Learn about how she developed her own unique style, her love affair with fellow painter Diego Rivera, and the lasting impact her surreal work had on the history of art in this book that brings her work to life.

A Kahlo masterpiece is featured on every spread. This art story also includes a closer look at 10 of Kahlo's masterpieces at the back.

My Thoughts on the Book
I loved the storytelling in this book as it showcase Frida's life in an easy way for kids. I also really loved the beatiful and colourful illustrations, especially as it fitted to Frida's artwork.

Annoncing the 2023 Diversity Reading Challenge

As it's 2023 in less than two months, I figured out it was time to annouce the 2023 Diversity Reading Challenge. I’m not going to make any categories or levels for this challenge, as I want it to be a bit flexible. Read as many books as you feel like reading and yes, it can be children’s books, graphic novels, e-books, non-fiction, audio books, poetry and you-name-it.
