Let's Talk Bookish; A Change in Bookish Opinions
It's Friday, which means it's perhaps time for another Let's Talk Bookish post courtesy of Book Nook Bits and Dinipanda Reads and today's topic is a change in bookish opinions.
Here's the further prompts for today's discussion.
Have your bookish opinions changed over the years, and if so, in what ways have they changed? Do you think your bookish opinions have changed because of being part of the bookish community (including on social media), reading more books, or book blogging? Have your bookish opinions changed in ways you didn’t expect?
I think my bookish opinions have changed a little bit at least, or at least my reading preferences. For instance, previously I did enjoy reading historical fiction and fantasy, but now I struggle a bit with both, especially with the historical inaccuracies in historical fiction. I might be slightly biased though, as I've got a minor in history and can spot errors a mile away - if someone is going to write historical fiction - can you at least get your damn facts straight? And can we stop using Nazi death camps such as Auschwitz as a setting and romanticise the whole death camp-thing? It's a bit disrespectful for all those who actually suffered and/or died there, damn it.
I think part of the reason why I struggle to read fantasy, and a lot of books written in English at the moment is that I believe the quality has decreased quite a bit in the last five to ten years or so, perhaps partially due to TikTok, that there's a bookish equivalent to fast fashion, and not enough good quality books written in English at the moment.
I might have been a bit wary of hyped books previously, but after being part of the bookish community for over ten years now, I'm honestly even more wary now.
